The Ultimaker Silicone Nozzle Cover protects the print nozzles. It prevents excess material from being pushed into the print head.
The Silicone Nozzle Cover is one of the maintenance parts for the Ultimaker S5. Wear varies depending on printer usage. For an annual printing time of 1,600 hours, we recommend replacing the Nozzle Cover every three months.
Generally speaking, however, you can also judge by the visual condition of the silicone cover. If the silicone has already turned brownish, the nozzle cover should be replaced.
Note: When fitting, ensure that the tabs are seated correctly in the housing. Fitting may seem a little complex the first few times. With practice, it is child’s play. The middle and front tabs, for example, can be pulled through the print head’s metal plate using needle-nose pliers. The tabs on the right and left must be slipped over the metal plate.
Ensure that the nozzle cover is correctly seated by pressing the print head limit switch several times. The nozzle cover must not fall out. Overall, the cover should sit flat and not hang down.
